Report to CACSSA AGM 2019

The Skittles Club: Report to the 2019 CACSSA AGM

The Skittles Club has had another successful year with our games enjoyed by all participating. The direction of the club is in emphasising the social opportunities to be enjoyed while celebrating successful players.

The 2018 Summer League had 4 teams playing and was won by the A-Bombs.

The Skittles Club’s 2018-2019 Winter League played with 8 teams. The Champion team is Muffin Men and the runner-up is Newcomers.

The President’s Shield was won by A-Bombs who beat Little John  in the final game.  This is a knock-out competition for the Winter League teams.

Through the year we hold our special competitions.

The Mixed Pairs competition was won by Jenny and Mark Court (second time in a row).  The runners-up were Gerry Chivers and Ann Locke.

The Tony Clay Memorial Shield was won by Jamie Bennett. The losing finalist was Dan Midwinter (second time in a row). This is a knock-out competition for individuals under front-pin rules.

The Player of the Year is John Harper (fourth time and third time in a last four years). The runner up is Ann Locke.  These two played brilliantly all evening.  This is a knock-out competition for individuals.

Congratulations to all our winners.

At our AGM last year we noted our Mixed Pairs competition did not attract many entries but that the evening was particularly enjoyed by the entrants. We agreed to hold another special competition for pairs of players of any sex. Unfortunately this did not attract much interest at the time so we try again in the autumn.

The club’s finances remain sound, with sufficient reserves for the foreseeable future.  Attracting new players and teams is difficult.  As always we could do with some new blood with fresh ideas on the committee.

We must record our thanks to Phil Lewis for arranging the stickers for our games, and to the manager and the management committee for providing the splendid facilities for us to play, and to Alan Brown for presenting the trophies on our recent Finals Night.
